This book should be called Foul Mouth not Personal Foul.
I was really looking forward to hearing Tim’s side of the
story, but the language in the book is so bad I had to
throw it in the garbage. Even if everyone else in the NBA
doesn’t have enough words in their vocabulary to speak
articulately, surely the author should!

This was a book written by disgraced NBA referee Tim Donaghy. Instead of enjoying what he had pursuing his dream of a NBA referee he throws it all away on gambling.
This book was very plain, very vanilla. One could tell that he had no writing experience, or his ghost writer was not that experienced.
The accusations of the other referees directing the outcomes of games are unproven and it just seems like he wrote this book for a fast way to pay for his alimony and legal bills.
What a waste of a life, and a waste of paper for this book.
Don’t bother with it, not worth the time.

Donaghy’s understanding of his own behavior provides insights into a world the NBA prefers to ignore. NBA Commissioner David Stern would like to put all the blame on Donaghy – without addressing all the issues of sports gambling, especially the point spreads that are published in most of our major newspapers. Regrettably, it seems that sports needs gambling as much as gambling needs sports. (The reviewer is author of Broken Trust – The Murder Of Basketball Star Jack Molinas .)

I was tempted to rate this book even lower than I did. However, I haven’t finished it yet and maybe it will get better. Somehow, I doubt it will.
I am having a lot of trouble getting through this book. I certainly hope that the author didn’t pay someone to ghost write it for him. If he did, he didn’t get his money’s worth. The book’s written in a pretty amateurish way. Maybe that’s on purpose because sports fan aren’t supposed to be very smart?
I don’t have any reason to doubt what Donaghy’s saying in his book (other than that he’s a gambling addict and habitual liar). I don’t trust David Stern or the corporate machine that is the NBA, either. So, I’ll give Donaghy the benefit of the doubt. Down with the man! The problem is, Donaghy just doesn’t have much to say and keeps saying it over and over-like he’s trying to fill space.
Save yourself a little money and a lot of time and don’t buy this book!

This was a book I would not have normally bought, it was a gift. It was an interesting read about whether the NBA is more like the WWF or a real sport.
